Diane's instructions: List the songs that move your spirit, cut deep into your soul, and threaten to break your heart. Any that inspires you! Up to ten songs and feel free to include links or videos.
This was harder than I thought it would be. Oh, not because
I couldn’t think of songs—the good Lord knows, I could have given you pages—but
because some of these songs cut deep. And for various reasons. Many touch me far beyond the subject of the
song. Could be a phrase or two of the lyrics, perhaps the music itself invokes
feelings or memories. When I listen to them, it opens a door to a time and
place. Not always comfortable because the song puts me back in a situation and
the heart remembers people, things, laughter and the pain. Some of my songs,
here, call to mind things my sisters or brothers went through, some are things
I’ve gone through.
A few of these touch my heart in another way—they put me in
a zone where I’d like to be. Especially some of the instrumentals because they
create a sense of comfort, nostalgia,
peace, and reflection.
Evanescence—My Immortal This one has deep personal meaning for me. Amy Lee has a knack, especially in this song, of capturing
the pain and feelings bewilderment and loss. I’ve been there. My voice range is
similar to hers and the first time I sang it in public I actually worried I
wouldn’t be able to finish it without tears. But I did. It’s a heartbreaker.
Breaking
Benjamin—Anthem Of the Angels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY3xjIHakY8
I will never hear this song without thinking of my brother
Roland and the week prior to his death.
The rest are
just songs I like and touch me.
Keith Urban—What About Me? There are days this song is so me. :-)
Roger Whitaker—I Don’t Believe IF Anymore. (Thank you Dad for hooking me on
this one).
Breaking Benjamin—I Will Not Bow Again the philosophy, much of it is mine.
Instrumental songs that touch my heart:
David Arkenstone & Kostia TheCello’s Song
David Lanz
Cristofori's Dream
William
Elwood "Elysian Fields
Hopefully, I have all the links correct. If you find one that isn't, let me know.

Sia, I was with you when you chose Evacnesence - My Imortal, love it, has meaning for me too!Breaking Benjamin is a good choice too!
Thanks for sharing.
I dont know how I left Evanescence off my list - but thanks to you I was reminded of how beautiful this song is.
Great list, I love Roger Whittaker singing"I Don't Believe in If Anymore".
Yvonne.
Lovely choices! I definitely agree about Evanescence, Amy Lee's voice is amazing.
Sia, that's what draws me to a song - how it makes me feel, and often it has a lot to do with the memories attached.
Wicked Games - I'd almost forgotten that one.
Wicked Games brings back so many memories for me - and not good ones. Great choices, Sia!
Oh! I love all of those!!
Since I love the music on your blog, I had to click on every one of these links. Of course, Wicked Games is so haunting...the rest, well, I like your choices girl!
I almost put Wicked Games on my list too.
Whoa, this makes me realize I am so out of the loop when it comes to music - I don't know any songs or artists on your list, except Tim McGraw.
Karen
I hardly know any on your list. Well, I love hearing new music. I'm going to go have a listen on youtube.

my favorite of there's is GIVE ME A SIGN.
have you seen that video?
i bawl like a baby every time!
Loved your song pics.
Vic, I have and you're right.
Jeremy, you made me laugh with that one. I have eclectic music taste. Actually, Roger Whitaker was a favorite of my dad's and I also like his Last Farewell. :-)
But I do love Staind. His songs are real and from the heart.
My Immortal is a popular selection.
I had Evanescence's Hello but My Immortal is also a fab choice. Also Chris Isaac's Wicked Games. I've always loved that song.
Great list!
What moving and beautiful selections. I almost picked Evanescence, too.
My Immortal is definitely a sad song. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Sia,
I thought I'd left a comment before, but Blogger has been loopy.
Really like that one by Roger Whittaker. It's a wonderful song. Loved it so much when I was a child.
Sia, you mentioned how much you love the sax. The other Jean Michel Jarre song I mentioned, Ron's Piece, has a very haunting sax in it. Jarre wrote it as a tribute to those killed in the Challenger explosion and the sax piece was the one the astronaut was to play on the shuttle as the first recorded music in space.
Here's the YouTube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtGG1WLP1pk
Many of these I haven't heard before. I'll check them out.
Nancy
Diane, I'll have to check it out. There are some instruments that lift a good piece of music to great--especially in the hands of a musician who puts his heart into it. :-)
Oh! I love: Tim McGraw—Please Remember Me
*sigh*
Have a great weekend!
JL, I've noticed the same with blogger today.I'm making my way through the list. Probably won't finish until tomorrow. But I few I hit twice--I knew that by the content but my comments weren't there, wtf?
I had to laugh when I went to your site, I talk about pages and you produced it, lol!
Love My Immortal. I picked it too.
Great list.
HMG
Evanescene has a fabulous sound. The songs attached to personal events are tough!
That's quite a mix of songs. Just the way I like it. Evanescence is a great group.

My Immortal is one of my all time favorite songs. Top five definitely. I can't believe that I left it off my list because it is heartbreaking!
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Glenn Miller's In the Mood.
Top Gun Anthem.
Jellicle Ball from Cats.
I know, a different kind of list. But I come from a dance/choreography background. These are songs that inspire great dance.
Ah, Beth, those are some great instrumentals. Love In The Mood and Rhapsody in Blue.
Beautiful list. Love your music choices. A couple of those are my favorite too.

Love 'Wicked Game.' Isaac has a voice like Roy Orbison, and the song sounds like something from a David Lynch soundtrack.
Lovely sad songs, Sia.
Love Evanescence! Don't know that I recognize the song, Immortal. But it's SO on my list now.
There are really two songs that I immediately think of when I think of music that haunts me.
Annie Lennox, "Into the West" that she did for Lord of the Rings. Absolutely beautiful. Brings goosebumps and tears every single time. It just speaks to me.
and... Sarah McLachlan's, "In The Arms of An Angel". I mean, c'mon! Tearville.
