SEXY VAMPIRES WITH LANA GRIFFIN

Dusk Book Blurb:

Alexandra Leveau comes from an ancient voodoo priestess clan that's been feuding with sexy vamp Vadim Blerinca's family for centuries. The mysterious "bad blood" between the Leveaus and Blerincas is what keeps Alexandra and Vadim burning for each other, yet it also makes them a very dangerous match: by making love, each could kill the other.

Added to the erotically charged mix are Alexandra's ex-boyfriend, the poetic wraith Skipp, as well as a gargoyle who is devoted to Alexandra and will kill anyone who tampers with her. Add one more wraith to the mix plus an insane vamp sire and the true Venus de Milos. Now mix in elements of murder and mystery: the deaths of elderly citizens for unknown reasons.

A sexy, romantic romp of forbidden love and lust!

My guest today is Lana Griffin. She's the author of twenty-one books and has created pseudonym Lana Griffin for her paranormal erotic romances. She's a busy author with three more books scheduled for this year. She also has a great sense of humor, which I love.

Her topic is what makes a hero, especially a Vampire hero, sexy and hot.

My thanks to Over Coffee for hosting me today. DUSK (Ravenous Romance, 12-30-10) is my first erotic romance novel.

DUSK is a sexy vampire tale, in which an ancient voodoo priestess and her vampire lover must overcome their "bad blood" to save the lives of ordinary humans.

In keeping with the topic of sexy vampires, today I’m going to talk about quantum physics, and what you, as romance readers, can do about it. I mean, how erotic is quantum entanglement? Does the thought of it get your heart beating, or what?

Okay, I didn’t think quantum physics would turn you on. It doesn’t turn me on, either.

So just what does make your heart race? For me, it has to be a sexy vampire, a cute guy, someone rugged, strong, and sure of himself. If he’s sensitive and he loves me, so much the better. Most important, he has to be hot. Passion is critical.

So let’s review (do you see how simple quantum physics can be?):

  • Nibbles on my neck?
  • Eyes glow when he sees me?
  • Hot hot hot?
  • Hypnotic?
  • Immortal?
  • Nocturnal?
  • Sexy as hell?

And did I mention, hot hot hot? (I guess you know what’s on my mind.)

Let me tell you, ladies, I really don’t care if he can fix the plumbing or mow the lawn. He doesn’t have to cook gourmet meals for me. For all I care, I’ll eat Fritos while he drinks blood.

There’s something about vampires that appeals to all of us. Yet when writing a vampire romance novel, the author has to inject something new to the mix. If she doesn’t do that, her story will feel stale.

With DUSK, I decided to add some love triangles, and along with my lead vamp hero, I made my heroine an ancient voodoo priestess and gave her a longtime lover, who just happens to be a poetic wraith. I even tossed in a gargoyle, who falls in love with the true Venus de Milos: hey, they’re both statues, so why shouldn’t they fall in love? Finally, I gave DUSK an underpinning of mystery to drive the plot.

  • My goal is to entertain readers. So if you read DUSK, I hope you like it.

  • Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, there’s absolutely no quantum physics in it!

  • What do you think makes a hero sexy and hot?

Lana, what a fun and original concept! I really like the addition of gargoyles and wraiths! And of course, I do love a mystery with my heat!

What makes a hero sexy in a novel for me is what makes one sexy in real life. Killer eyes, a sense that I'm the center of his universe, and who would die to be the center of mine. And if he's willing to clean the occassional toilet, even better!

Sia, it's cold and drizzly here. A nice latte and a lemon poppyseed muffin woudl bring a bit of heat and sunshine to the day!

ooh, Kat, try a hot Belgian chocolate mocha to warm you up... That's what I've grabbed from Sia's amazing coffee bar!

Wonderful article, ladies, and while I do find quantum physics Rawtha Sexy (bad English accent inserted there), I like my men a bit wicked or with a wicked sense of humor in my books. Don't like the total alpha males who have no sense of humor at all... Vampires...well, I have one word. SPIKE!!!!

Hi, Sia, Kat, & Dana!
Great article, Lana!

I agree with all the statements about what's hot in a hero, but I also add that I have to see a sense of humanity in the vampires. A vulnerability in the strongest males, along with a large dose of loyalty. Vishous from the Black Dagger Brotherhood is just yummy. Of course, he's a little twisted too, but we're just talking about fantasy. So no harm done. Heh.

Dana Fredsti said...

Nothing wrong with a little yummy twistedness, Angela! And I totally agree with a dash of vulnerability...

Dana, defitately Spike. If he carries a sword and knows how to use it, that's even sexier, lol!

~Sia McKye~ said...

Kat, sexy eyes and a sense of humor is a must!

A man with good thighs who knows how to use a sword, especially a rapier, is the guy for me... OOOOH, yeah...

To me, what makes a hero sexy is the mystery of them. The way that almost every SEXY hero seems to have that hidden dark side that one can only imagine what it hides. How their smoldering eyes reach deep inside the soul of the one that always seems to fall inlove with them. How no matter what they are all that remains on your mind weeks after you are done reading that book, or watching that movie. Even if they are not HOT HOT HOT, its more of the way the character is so mysterious, always there, and always seems to be wrestling with some darker side, a torment almost. It makes YOU want to be the one who comforts them..... then ya snap out of it and realize you have a ton of laundry or cleaning to get done but still you cant help but keep that hero, that wonderfully amazing hero in the back of your mind..."

Wow, even the cover leaps out and grabs hard. Excellent interview!

"good thighs who knows how to use a sword, especially a rapier" -- OMG, Dana, I'm still laughing from that one!

Lana Griffin said...

Kat - oh, I agree with the "killer eyes" and the "sense that I'm the center of his universe" - absolutely! You can see a man's soul through his eyes. Other than the obvious body parts (clearing throat) yes yes...

Sorry, I was distracted for a minute there...

Romance, imho, =is= soul. Longing, passion, need, gotta have you, loves you and only you...

Tina - you put it well - "How their smoldering eyes reach deep inside the soul of the one that always seems to fall inlove with them."

Dana like swords, rapiers, and I'm sure you've heard of the term *the little death* Lana. lolol!

Great post, Lana! I agree with Angela that a sense of humanity and vulnerability is also important in the vampire hero. I also love the way you have integrated various myths to create something fresh and exciting. DUSK sounds like a great read!

Do you believe in "love at first sight"?

And if so, what is it that you see in a guy that makes you fall in love with him instantly?

~Sia McKye~ said...

Hey Lisa! Good to see you. I wondered if you'd wander in. :-D I like having some of favorite Ravenous authors pop by!

~Sia McKye~ said...

"Love at First sight?" Hmmm, Lust for sure, attraction and an awareness that this person is one you could love, yeah... Not sure about LOVE, since it requires some depth...

Dana Fredsti said...

Lana, I am SO serious about the whole thigh/rapier thing... OH yeah... A movie that definitely formed my idea of what is sexy in a guy is the THREE MUSKETEERS... the Richard Lester version, mind you.

Lust at first sight...never really had love at first sight - my brain has to be engaged to really find someone sexy.

VA said...

First off I gotta agree with Dana, quantum physics is way sexy. If you're doing it right it seems like magic :)

Sexy men, I like the alpha male who can kill with one hand and pamper his love with the next. Utter control and dedication to whatever he is doing, that includes any interludes with me. Oh, and the control that seems invincible can be subverted by his love. Of course.

Tina Geer said...

Love at first sight? Maybe. For me, it has never been at first sight, but when i really look into a persons eyes. I dont mean a staring look, I mean to search in them. The eyes holds it all in my world. Its a feeling that this person, somehow, somewhere, belongs in my world, in my life. They can tell you if they are just full of mischeif or if they just are good fun. You can find truth or lies, longing, or my favorite, desire. The way they shine with hope or if the eyes are dull with pain. Its all there.

~Sia McKye~ said...

BTW, Lana, I'm enjoying Dusk. It hasn't lost my interest at all.

Kat Sheridan said...

Absolutely I believe in love at first sight. First time I saw hubs I *KNEW*. And I ran like hell! Took us six years to decide to make it official--that was 20 years ago now. And believe it or not, it was the wrinkles around his eyes that did it. They told me he laughed a lot. And it was true.

VA said...

For me love a first sight is a no-go. I don't trust anything enough to believe it first go around, must be thoroughly vetted before emotions get to take logic for a ride. Yes, I do have control issues.

No quantum physics? As long as there's coffee.

~Sia McKye~ said...

Sheila, I always have coffee and a variety, even. :-)

Psst, I also keep a supply of chocolate under the coffee bar, as well as in the two punch bowl sized glass bowls on either end. ;-)

Lana Griffin said...

Sia, would you kindly send espresso my way? a double!

I'm sharing a tray of honey-drenched cookies made from phyllo dough -- (passing tray around) -- oh yes, take as many as you want! Sia has another tray under the bar...I think... oh wait, I may have eaten them last night, sorry.

It's comfy down here under Sia's bar. I've been here all night, just waiting for morning and some of Sia's coffee. Snuggled on a giant-sized kitty pillow.

Sia, my dear, you have a lot of INTERESTING THINGS here beneath the bar! Why, what's this? and THIS?
